Let’s face it: Half the fun of the Winter 4×4 Jamboree is figuring out just how much you and your rig can take before something gives. With all the swagger of a 5-year-old in a Batman cape, the Dirt Road Journey crew decided to push their Jeep Gladiator to the edge – specifically, the Sand and Rock trail. Spoiler alert: things went sideways:
“Am I gonna break more stuff?”
…cue ominous snapping sound…
“It happened!”
Behold, a mangled lower control arm bracket and a snapped rear driveshaft appear. Factory brackets? Not a chance. The DirtRoadJourney crew knows how to modify and repair parts on the fly for their kind of fun.
Do we at Superwinch approve of all their methods? We’re going to say “Absolutely not” to keep our lawyers happy. Lucky for them, their Superwinch winch was ready to play hero…with all the swagger of a far more experienced 6-year-old in a Batman cape.
Superwinch Saves The Day
With an assist from Superwinch, the team got the Gladiator out of the rocks and onto repair-friendly ground. Pro Tip: Don’t attempt on-trail fixes without backup parts for your backup parts. Crews like Dirt Road Journey pack extra parts for moments exactly like this. (Broken brackets? Totally normal.)
Because Why Not Test Superwinch?
Meanwhile, over in the “Hold My Beer” department, we check in with the OffRoadNChill team an their brilliant idea: How many hose clamps does it take to tow a vehicle? For the love of all things holy, do not try this at home – or on the trail. Always pack proper emergency shackles (recovery kits are also a good idea)…and use them properly.
Still, in the name of “science,” the team discovered that five hose clamps were enough to get the job done. Now you know – you’re welcome.
“So what you are telling us is 5 clamps = Emergency Shackle?” 😂
But hey, it’s all fun and games until someone’s trail repair or science project becomes a cautionary tale. We at Superwinch DO NOT condone nor recommend the methods employed in the above videos – but we sure do enjoy watching them and think you might, too. In fact, we recently ran a winch giveaway with OffRoadNChill for one of our SX series winches. But back to the point, please, please…always use the right equipment and safe recovery methods, folks. Your Jeep (and your life) will thank you.
