After using his SX10SR extensively for two years, the synthetic rope was due for replacement, although he did mention that with proper care, the synthetic rope would have lasted far longer. In fact, the SX10SR worked faultlessly despite zero maintenance including the wireless remote control unit which had been run over by his Jeep (oops!).
Tim thought that it was a good time for an upgrade, and he decided to stick to the rugged Superwinch SX10SR unit, but this time he chose the Midnight Edition. It features a black powder-coated finish, blue accents, and a relocatable control box, making it a perfect aesthetic and functional match for his Jeep build.

Installing The New Winch
The installation process was straightforward and required the removal of the front bumper and factory skid plate to access the mounting hardware. Tim used the winch’s sliding square nut system for easy alignment and reused his existing power and ground wires to save time.
Finishing off the installation was a new aluminum hawse fairlead, Tim mentioned the importance of centering it correctly to prevent the synthetic rope from fraying against the bumper’s sharp edges.
